A Superb ///Morning. Cars & Kopi Autumn 2019

After a short hiatus of about half a year, it seemed like a pretty good time to have another one of our auto-otaku gatherings. It’s been a rather interesting year for the local automotive enthusiasts with several events held throughout the year, a reason why I was initially hesitant to have another Cars & Kopi meet. Would anyone show up?

But, with a nice long weekend in sight that had rather good weather predicted, why not? Ladies and Gents, once again, thank you for gracing the meet. Without all of you, it would just be an empty carpark. Welcome to Cars & Kopi Autumn/Winter 2019.

P1310361.jpg

For those who remembered our last meet back in April, we managed to get our friends from BMW Asia and Performance Munich Auto to showcase the latest BMW 8 Series. This round, however, there was something I’ve had been wanting to put together for the longest time. No prizes for guessing, I so very much wanted the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra sisters next to each other. Thanks to our friends from Top Gear Singapore, I got my wish.

P1300907.jpg

With the Toyota Supra yet to be officially launched in Singapore at the time of the meet (blame local homologation), the kind folks over at Borneo Motors, Singapore’s Toyota dealership, were kind enough to not just bring one Supra, but a pair of Supras ahead of their local launch. It was quite the sight for both enthusiasts and casual observers alike!

P1310319.jpg

With the Z4 arriving shortly after, we had to put them together. Extra points for both wearing matching coloured outfits!

P1310328.jpg

Next to the wild curves of the Supra, the Z4 definitely carries a more understated vibe and mature aesthetic.

P1310312.jpg

P1310334.jpg

I do hope the Supra does well. Not just because I’d like to buy a used one in the future, but because it might be just the car to save the dying Sports-car segment against the relentless SUV onslaught.

P1300924.jpg

I’d like mine in red as well, please.

P1310126.jpg

Even with a rather large number of parking lots, it didn’t take long for them to be filled up. Here’s the local SAAB contingent. The last of their kind.

P1300910.jpg

P1300935.jpg

Lovely interior on the 900 Turbo Cabriolet.

P1310364.jpg

Stunning 993 RS. Looks and sounds better in person.

P1310230.jpg

Everyone loves a Rad-era 911.

P1310214.jpg

Peppermint Patty.

P1310236.jpg

An early GTO/3000GT. In my opinion, the best looking of the lot. The design of this Mitsubishi just got more and fussier as they progressed through the years and the later cars don’t seem to age as well as this. Seems to be getting more recognition now too.

P1300965.jpg

Beautiful blues.

P1300970.jpg

Which would you pick for your imaginary garage?

P1300977.jpg

The Alpina B3 Biturbo Touring?

P1300974.jpg

Or the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio?

P1300960.jpg

For me? Wagon all the way.

P1310289.jpg

P1310280.jpg

With these cars being rather rare here, it was quite amazing that another B3 Biturbo Touring was lurking around. Sat next to a sweet 911 GT3.

P1310276.jpg

If I had to choose between the Touring of the GT3, I’m afraid I’ll have no choice but to defect to the dark side of the Porsche force.

P1300986.jpg

More serious German metal.

P1310087.jpg

P1310081.jpg

Wild Prior Design 6er Gran Coupe.

P1310030.jpg

Stealthy C63 came in rather quietly on its stock exhaust.

P1310059.jpg

Youngtimer duo.

P1310034.jpg

Lovely E30 Cabriolet.

P1300996.jpg

Our perennial favourite, the Z4 M Coupe. The design of this Z4 dates back almost 18 years but I think it has withstood the test of time rather well. Bangle was right all along.

P1310093.jpg

I don’t normally take pictures of Audis but the fitment on this TT is on point.

P1310228.jpg

More German heavy metal yet again with this beautiful China Blue Gelandewagen. What’s that curious looking E30 at the back though?

P1310139.jpg

Check out this square headlamp conversion. Haven’t seen an E30 with these lights since, the 90s?

P1310142.jpg

All he needs is a set of BBS LMs and he’ll be ready to rock! Great looking example, haven’t seen this one around before.

P1310133.jpg

Boxy? Or er… Roundie?

P1310144.jpg

As I was ogling the radness of the square-faced E30, this drove by behind me.

P1310206.jpg

Fantastic livery.

P1310287.jpg

P1310036.jpg

For the Swede Wagonist.

P1310039.jpg

Different takes on stance. You can check out the dropped BMW’s IG here.

P1300918.jpg

P1310021.jpg

P1300992.jpg

JDM legends.

P1310015.jpg

I don’t think they need any introduction.

P1310013.jpg

Beautiful works livery on this EVO III.

P1310027.jpg

P1310119.jpg

P1310047.jpg

As always, there was plenty of EVO action for one morning.

P1310284.jpg

Would you like your turbo AWD power in wagon form too?

P1310050.jpg

P1310044.jpg

This lovely blue example belongs to the curator of Cyber Imp Productions. Here’s his IG.

P1310217.jpg

Of course, we cannot forget Mitsubishi’s rally rivals from Fuji Heavy Industries. Here’s a pair of WRS’s. One slightly more special than the other. Can you guess which?

P1310223.jpg

Here’s a hint.

P1310220.jpg

I’m not sure how many made it out of Japan but it’s pretty cool to see one here.

P1310210.jpg

A rather clean STi.

P1310061.jpg

Another clean STi, but in Forester guise.

P1310065.jpg

Wouldn’t this make an exceptional dog hauler? I’d love to have one.

P1310130.jpg

P1300989.jpg

S-Chassis appreciation.

P1310186.jpg

This ER34 GTT Sedan had a rather cheeky rear badge.

P1310185.jpg

It says, “I want to buy a GT-R”.

P1310182.jpg

P1310160.jpg

This Spoon-ed out S2000 deserves special mention.

P1310169.jpg

P1310165.jpg

That Spoon hardtop sure makes the S2000 look different. I love it.

P1310172.jpg

I can only shudder at the thought of how much money went into this S2000.

P1310241.jpg

Yup. Pretty sure he made the pilgrimage.

P1310257.jpg

Another Honda S, but this time, an S660. I’ve never seen one of these on the roads before. With the obscene amount of taxes tacked onto new cars here, it must take a real fan to buy one.

P1310024.jpg

I’m still not too sure about the new 1. That Miata though, lovely.

P1310106.jpg

P1310111.jpg

P1310117.jpg

Here’s another car you won’t see every day. A limited-edition GP. 4-Spoke wheels rule!

P1310350.jpg

Looks fast!

P1310347.jpg

Is probably really fast!

P1310307.jpg

Cars & Kopi mascot. Small cat, meet big cat.

P1310244.jpg

Here’s another oddity, a Skoda Octavia VRS Combi. In other words, VW GTi in wagon form wearing a Czech dress and German heels.

P1310246.jpg

It was for sale too.

P1310271.jpg

More oddities!

P1310076.jpg

Guten Morgen!

P1300999.jpg

Buongiorno! Ciao!

P1310250.jpg

Mama mia!

P1310156.jpg

As for me? I brought the’02 out with a period-correct magazine along for the ride.

P1310155.jpg

With the morning coming to a close by this point, it was time for me head off to run my weekend errands. Taking pictures is hard work!

P1310355.jpg

No need to smoke when you drive an old car.

P1310360.jpg

As this E-type demonstrated, Eau’de gasoline all the way.
