Bimmermeet 2: Modernist

Having covered both the Old and Young timers, it’s time to move on towards the cars of a more recent era. Today, we cover the modern classics as well as the latest Ultimate Driving Machines from Bavaria.

There were quite a number of first generation Z4s around and while this car’s design was initially quite shocking when it first launched, i think it has aged really well. The Bunny Girl option was a good choice too.

P1180032

With these Z4s having reached rather attainable levels on the resale market, it didn’t take long for aftermarket tuners to take notice. Like this Liberty Walk-kitted example. Very Wild.

P1180016

Like the Pandem Rocket Bunny E30s, i never thought i’d be seeing a Liberty Walk Z4 outside of Japan, especially one with such a wild wrap.

P1180027

P1180016

Cruising on air.

P1170847

Something i don’t usually come across. A Z4 fully decked out Rowen Style. For those who don’t know who Rowen are, perhaps you might know them better by their previous name, Tommy Kaira.

P1180048

While there’s no denying the appeal of a tuned up Z4, when it comes to something special that you’d like to treasure and keep for a long time to come, there can one variation of the breed. The M-Division fettled Z4M. Seen here parked up next to a very desirable E46 M3 as well. If you had a garage with these 2 cars, mad respect (and envy).

P1170754

But if you (or anyone else) were to ask me which brand new BMW M is my pick of the entire stable, it will have to be one of these. The M2. Sublime.

P1170779

It might be the cheapest M car on offer right now, but in my opinion, it is one of the best drivers cars on sale right now.

P1170752

These one came with some lovely aftermarket additions.

P1170841

You can never go wrong with a set of BBS LMs on a BMW.

P1180633

Green accents on the vents are a subtle bit of personalisation that works quite well.

P1170783

If you don’t want to go the full hog with an M2, there’s always the brilliant M235i/M240i on offer. Drives amazingly well and easier on the finances.

P1180485

A current generation Z4 kitted out wide. This looked like fully customised bodywork.

P1180469

More Liberty Walk love on this M3 Cabriolet.

P1170737

P1170746

With the latest M5 on preview at the event courtesy of BMW Thailand, they had a special area showcasing all the previous generation M5s.

P1170789

Not exactly an M5 Wagon but Buchloe’s take on a mega rapid cargo hauler sure looks lovely.

P1180052

P1180804

Did i mention i am a pretty big Alpina geek? I’m a pretty big Alpina geek. It’s quite an Auto-Otaku car don’t you think?

P1170769

P1180116

BBS LM or Alpina Softlines? Which would you pick given a choice?

P1180825

Or do you prefer the BBS LM-R?

P1180733

P1180753

Lovely lineup of modern beauties.

Stunning M4 sitting on a beautiful set of Yokohama Advan Racing wheels. I also really like how the owner colourised the M-colours onto the power bulge. Nice touch!

P1180783

Order of the Phoenix (yellow).

P1180439

Faux winter on an M4 on display from BMW Thailand.

P1180643

For those who wish to bring home a piece of BMW Motorsports, there were a couple of diecast models available for purchase.

P1180723

Moving on from M-Power to i-Power.

P1180083

P1180084

Beautiful white i8 sitting on a set of sweet ADV1 wheels.

P1180365

I guess some visual mods work better than others, but as long as the owner likes is and is happy, it’s all good!

P1180696

Modern day Shark tank?

P1170655

P1170728

Plenty of BBS fans in the crowd.

P1190062

Here’s something you don’t see everyday, a tweaked 3 Series GT.

P1190096

P1190093

Lowered, Shadowlined and sitting on a set of BBS LMs. I never thought a 3GT can ever look this good. Kudos to the owner for taking the plunge.

P1190072

P1190074

Well done! Don’t change a thing.

P1190070

P1190079

Old vs New. As well as a testament to how much cars have grown over the years with the 3 Series now bigger than the old 5.

Finally deciding that i had taken enough pictures and short videos for my write ups, and with my wobbly legs to show for it, it was time for me to take a break and sit down with a drink to enjoy the rest of Bimmerfest 2 as the sun started to set. The weather was great with a cool breeze enveloping the area and the people were friendly, giving Bimmerfest 2 a fantastically chill vibe, the likes of which i rarely encounter back home. Dear BMW Asia, please send me back, or i might really have to drive up for the next one.

Until 2019, enjoy your drive!
