Project 944: Clearest Blue

If by now you haven’t figured it out, no more prizes for guessing the color of Project 944! (But, to be honest, there really wasn’t any to begin with)

Yes, our money pit project car has been christened with a fresh coat of blue. Porsche L37W to be precise.

While our initial plan was to go ahead with a black on black theme, we were at times hesitant as it felt like just too safe a choice. And with a few other black 944s seen running around, perhaps maybe even, a little boring.

So we threw around a couple of other paint ideas and in the end, we finally decided on… Silver Rose Metallic (LM3Z)! That was until i chanced upon a striking dark blue 993 in Dutton Garage while on holiday in Melbourne. Instantly i knew this was the color for Porject 944. I glanced at the spec sheet on the windscreen and noted the name of the paint, Midnight Blue Metallic.

So here we are, a few weeks in at the paint shop and Project 944 has been mostly colored up. Save for a couple of spots like the engine bay and boot.

I actually dropped in the middle of the week and saw the painters working their way around the engine bay area, so i left them to their own devices and decided against taking any pictures.

Perhaps there will be some new updates to see this weekend!

Outside of the paint shop, i picked up a used Nakamichi CD300 head unit to replace the colorful disco light Sony system sitting in the car currently. Such a shame audio manufacturers have stopped producing such clean and simple designs in favour of going all high-tech and cyber looking. I’m pretty sure there’s a market for these relatively stock looking and inexpensive devices now that old cars are en vogue.
